Ledisi (means to fetch forth in Nigerian) was born in the Big Easy where she american ginseng with New Orleans Symphony Orchestra when she was eight long time old and fatigued many adolescent hours observation her mama perform with a local R&B band, much in a nearby park. After the crime syndicate resettled to Oakland, CA, Ledisi followed her mom's lead and american ginseng in a local band but left to form her own group and identity. She's most noted for her continuous performances in Beach Blanket Babylon, a long running San Francisco-based club that features song parodies, celebrity impersonations, and enormous hats; she got the lance after being nominated for a Shellie honour in 1990 for her persona as Dorothy in a local edition of the Wiz.

She later formed Anibade, Ledisi's middle identify, which depending on what you say means "to fetch forth fortune" or "my mother is swell" in Yorubu. The players ar: Sundra Manning (keyboards and honcho songwriter), Cedrickke Dennis (guitar), Nelson Braxton (bass), Wayne Braxton (saxophone), and Tommy Bradford (drums); spell the card is similar to Chaka Khan & Rufus, the sound -- on record anyway -- is mellower than Rufus' energized, excellent-engineered sounds. Ledisi sometimes fuses R&B, rap music, urban, idle words, and funk in the same can.

They reinforced a hot reputation in the Bay expanse at Bruno's, the Black Cat, and Rasselas (local clubs). Fans unbroken request around a record so the circle cut a demo, "Read Time," that radio station KMEL aired and got a good response; the stroke prompted Ledisi to seek a deal with the major recording companies, all wHO extolment and turned them mastered in the like breath. Frustrated, just not foiled, they cut the critically acclaimed Soulsinger and released it on LeSun Records (owned by Ledisi and Sundra), January 1, 2000. "Daddy Loved to Love Me" -- a personal score of a church Father sexually abusing his girl -- is unitary of the CD's virtually absorbing and controversial tracks.

The CD has done well without the benefit a major distributor. LeSun's grassroots promotion/publicity campaign has been extremely successful, they go beyond the bare artist/company entanglement varlet and saturate the net with information accompanied by a entire gigging collection plate where they strike hard 'em dead patch promoting and sell their CD, tees, and other items. Amazon ranked Soulsinger telephone number fin in Los Angeles (Sep 2001), and it's democratic in Finland, Norway, London, and Amsterdam.

She's done a jazz album with bassist Marcus Shelby for Noir Records -- Shelby's self-governing based troupe in San Francisco -- that farther illustrates her amazing skills. Her resume includes singing in choirs, playing jazz, and perusing opera and forte-piano at the University of California Berkley's Young Musicians Program for five-spot old age. She's also through commercials and soundtracks for the Sci-Fi Channel along with appearing on the same stages with some of the world's nigh beloved entertainers. Her third base studio album, Lost & Found, was released in 2007.
