Initially formed in 2001 as a low-keyed side externalise with which to practice his guitar-playing skills, Poisonblack became the independent isthmus of Sentenced singer Ville Laihiala next that band's demise in 2005. By then, he'd already recorded and released 2003's Escapexstacy with the help of studio apartment musicians J.P. Leppaluoto (vocals) and Janne Kukkonen (bass voice), but, issue forth 2006's soph Lust Stained Despair album, both were gone and replaced by a tour-ready lineup including rhythm guitarist Janne Markus, keyboardist Marco Sneck, bassist Antti Remes, and drummer Tarmo Kanerva. Despite the musician turnover, neither album fell far from the Sentenced musical tree, as they featured gothic-tinged hard rock candy and alloy.
