CMT to rebroadcast 'Nashville Star'

Reality series heads to the music channel this summer





CMT has inked a deal to rebroadcast episodes of NBC's music competition series "Nashville Star."
"Star," which aired on NBC's corporate sibling USA Network, will make its debut on the peacock with its sixth-season premiere 9:30-11 p.m. June 9. "Star" will then debut on CMT 4 p.m. June 14 before moving into its regular time slot June 20 at 8 p.m.
The show is hosted by Billy Ray Cyrus, who also will serve as judge and mentor alongside John Rich, Jewel and songwriter Jeffrey Steele. Solo artists, duos and trios who are 16 or older will compete for a recording contract with Warner Bros. Nashville and the chance to perform at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
"With CMT favorites like Billy Ray Cyrus, John Rich and Jewel, this show is a natural fit for our audience," CMT vp programming strategy Mary Beth Cunin said.
"Star" is created by Reveille and produced by 495 Prods. Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Mark Koops and Sallyann Salsano are the executive producers. Jon Small produces.
"Partnering with CMT is a strategic move by Reveille and NBC to create a brand affiliation for Nashville Star with the biggest television outlet for country music," Owens, managing director of Reveille, said. "To repurpose on CMT was the only natural distribution fit."
