This terzetto of African musicians united forces in the nineties to explore not only what each had to offer, just what would result from such performances. With the facilitate and assistance of Bill Laswell, Fousseny Kouyate of Mali, Foday Musa Suso of Gambia and Aiyb Dieng of Senegal began transcription together. In 1996, Possession released African Dub, its debut album on Subharmonic. The reviews for the record album were numerous and all positive. The group continued to do throughout the earth, including Africa and Europe. In 2001, Possession returned to the studio to record its sophomore album. The self-titled second record was released in 2002 on RCA. The group have oftentimes been compared to other earth music artists such as Deep Music and too some melodic projects by Peter Gabriel.
