Donatella Versace dedicates Spring-Summer 2009 collection to Barack Obama

MILAN, Italy - The latest "first" for Barack Obama comes off the Milan runway.

Calling the U.S. presidential hopeful "the man of the moment," Donatella Versace dedicated her Spring-Summer 2009 collection presented Saturday evening to Obama, creating a style she said was designed for "a relaxed man who doesn't need to flex muscles to show he has power."

Chatting with reporters in the cool of the garden of her private palazzo in downtown Milan at an after-show dinner party, the designer also had some fashion tips for the campaign trail. "I would get rid of the tie and jazz up the shirt," she said.

In fact, there were no ties in Donatella's latest show, and shirts under jackets were either super easy with rolled up sleeves or replaced by a silk T-shirt.

The new Versace suit has a structured jacket softened by a double lapel or no lapel at all and slim trousers with slick techno-fabric sheen. Crazy zigzags break up the monotony of pinstripes and checks, while the pastel palette gives the collection a warm summer feel.

Sitting in the front row, actor Rupert Everett applauded enthusiastically, showing that even if it was not dedicated to him, he found the collection right up his alley.

Overall, this round of "moda Milanese" menswear preview collections, which ends Wednesday, promises to be all about chilling out, a refreshing thought in a Milan in the grip of this summer's first heat wave.

The relaxed feel of the collections is epitomized by the return of the unlined jacket, which, when coupled with wide loose trousers, creates a casual yet elegant summer suit.

Right at home with this look was Tomas Maier, the creative director at Bottega Veneta, who presented his collection Sunday morning.

From the ultra soft pyjama jacket to the classic blazer, to the white shantung silk dinner jacket, the idea is to keep a guy stylish and comfortable throughout the day. Novelty comes in the "double jacket" which appears to have separate layers, creating a two-jackets-in-one effect.

"If you think about the gap in menswear between a tailored suit and a T-shirt and jeans, it's filled by the jacket," Maier says in his show notes.

Ultra-soft trousers with well-defined cuff, cool khaki and pastel shades, loafers and saddle shoes, and the latest men's shopping bag in Bottega's exquisite leather complete the collection's casual chic.

Sunday afternoon, Giorgio Armani presented his second line Emporio collection aimed at a younger customer.

The first part of the show reflected the current return of the jacket and suit, with the added attraction of the vest, either as part of the suit or on its own. Here the designer was tops, but then suit tailoring comes naturally to the maestro who invented the unlined jacket back in the 1970's. An Armani suit is a must in the closets of the rich and famous.

The second half of the show, dedicated to sportswear, strayed from this tradition. Ruffled surfing shorts and rubberized - or were they patent leather? - Bermudas made one yearn for Armani the tailor.

Earlier Saturday, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana underlined the relaxed feel of these previews with a series of silk bathrobes and boxer shorts - the utmost in the luxury of indolence.

Models walked down the runway of the designers' theatre in downtown Milan wearing pinstriped suits as loose and easy as silk pajamas. Their horn-rimmed eyeglasses and leather sandals told a tale of a contemporary business man who can combine beach and office with ease.

When home he might be lucky enough to find his better half in a Dolce&Gabbana robe number, just like the one Naomi Campbell flaunted for the show's finale.

Also showing Saturday, Christopher Bailey for Burberry embraced the easy life for next summer wrinkling everything from jacket to trench coat before it gets crumpled in a suitcase or soaked in the rain.

Typically British, the summer Burberry man can't part with his cardigan - this round so light it can hardly be called sensible - and his traditional hat, the latest version a cross between Paddington Bear and a scarecrow.

To complete the first day of showings, the minimalist Jil Sander label presented its take on the current casual look: Jackets cut close to the body in color blocks like a Mondrian print with zippers instead of buttons for an extra cool fit.

CSS close Glastonbury day two with dance party

CSS closed day two of Glastonbury 2008 in the early hours of this morning (June 29) on the Park Stage with a raucous, glitter-splattered set.

Taking the balloon-decorated stage at 12.05am (BST) singer Lovefoxxx, sporting an enormous woolly coat and white afro wig, screamed wildly at the audience then launched into 'Rat Is Dead (Rage)', which is on their forthcoming second album 'Donkey'.

The star then shed her coat to reveal a shiny golden jumpsuit before dancing manically and leading the crowd through a unified dance move. The Park Stage audience copied her arm-wave motion in time, creating a sea of flailing limbs.

CSS played a slew of new songs from 'Donkey', out July 21, including new single 'Left Behind'. During the song Lovefoxxx shed her golden catsuit to reveal a green and purple one beneath it.

The Brazillian band also played older numbers including 'Off The Hook', during which the singer swigged from a bottle of water then sprayed it from her mouth into the crowd.

During 'Alcohol' Lovefoxxx teased the crowd, pretending she was about to leap into the front row then backing off, drawing a particularly loud response from a section of the crowd from which a Brazillian flag was waving.

After playing another new album track - 'Reggae All Night' - Lovefoxxx revealed that the band, who had originally been scheduled to play at 11.30pm, would not be playing a full set.

"It took so long time setting up, so we had to cut it short," she said in a dismayed tone. "I know!" She exclaimed when the crowd boo-ed in response. "We've been waiting for this moment all our lives!"

CSS ended their set with a frenetic run-through of 'Alala'. The band fired glitter guns into the crowd at the death of the song then used them to smash up the stage wildly before finally heading off.

CSS played:

'Rat Is Dead (Rage)'
'Meeting Paris Hilton'
'This Month, Day 10'
'Left Behind'
'Off The Hook'
'Music Is My Hot Hot Sex'
'Alcohol'
'Reggae All Night'
'Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above'
'Alala'

'Hancock' grosses $17.4 mil in first day

Adds that figure to $6.8 mil from Tuesday previews

In its first full day of screenings Wednesday, Sony's "Hancock," starring Will Smith as a reprobate superhero, grossed $17.4 million in its 3,965 locations.

Having collected an additional $6.8 million from Tuesday night previews in 3,680 theaters, the movie's total from its first 1 1/2 days adds up to $24.2 million.

Those numbers suggest the movie could settle into the $90 million-$100 million range by the end of the holiday weekend -- easily dominating the frame though not necessarily setting any records.

By contrast, "Transformers," last year's big Fourth of July hit, opened on a Monday night with preview screenings that attracted $8.8 million and picked up $27.9 million on Tuesday, July 3. Its 1 1/2-day take amounted to $36.7 million. "Transformers," which unlike "Hancock" enjoyed the benefit of an established brand name, went on to gross $155.4 million in its first 6 1/2 days.

LA prosecutors charge rapper Nate Dogg with stalking his wife

LOS ANGELES - Prosecutors have filed felony charges against rapper Nate Dogg, who authorities suspect threatened and stalked his wife.

The rapper, whose real name is Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, was charged Monday. He was arrested last month by the California Highway Patrol after his wife claimed he was threatening her and following her as she drove on a freeway south of Los Angeles.

Hale, 38, will be arraigned July 16 on felony counts of making criminal threats, stalking and a misdemeanour charge of driving while his licence was suspended for a drunken driving violation.

He was arrested June 23 and released on bail a day later.

His lawyer, Mark Geragos, said Tuesday he looked forward to defending his client in court.

"Unfortunately, he's had a tough year and we look forward to getting him through it," Geragos said.

Hale made his name appearing on songs alongside rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Warren G, 50 Cent and Eminem.

The seeds of Danish force metal isthmus Iron Fire were planted in the middle of the nineties, when isaac M. Singer Martin Steene, then of the band Misery, gradually began to practice session more creative ascendance over the band. After leading the mathematical group through a few card and call changes (it was briefly known as Decades of Darkness), he named it Iron Fire.

In the summertime of 1998 the new isthmus, pickings its cues from the fast in time melodic approach of German force metal bands like Helloween, recorded their first demonstration CD. They sold the self-titled disc to fans spell shopping it to record labels, which lED to a record deal with Berlin's Modern Music. In the give of 2000, Iron Fire released its debut album, Thunderstorm, on the label, and john Drew enthusiastic fans and positive reviews in the metal adjure; the German EMP catalogue remarked, "Electric storm presents a mix of hard up-tempo songs, energetic mid-tempo tracks as good as traditional alloy hymns." The record album features a wrap up variation of Running Wild track "Under Jolly Roger," further underscoring the band's fealty to German force metal.

Following the waiver of Thunderstorm, Steene overhauled the batting order all the same once more earlier beginning a arcsecond full-length record. Now featuring Kristian Hegelund Martinsen and Martin Slott on guitars, drummer Martin Plenge, and basso thespian Jakob Lykkebo, Iron Fire recorded its secondment album, On the Edge, with producer Tommy Hansen (Pretty Maids, Helloween, etc.) at Hansen's Jailhouse Studios. Paisley says working with Griffith a highlight

NASHVILLE, Tenn. —

Brad Paisley says he got to mark a biggie off his wish list when Andy Griffith agreed to be in the video for his new single, "Waitin' On a Woman."

"He has influenced my life more than most people that I grew up with - more than most people that I actually knew my whole life," Paisley said recently. "I wrote Andy a letter telling him what he has meant to me over the years and asked him to be in the video."

In the video, which began airing this week, the 82-year-old star of the long-running TV series "Matlock" and "The Andy Griffith Show" plays a kindly gentleman who advises Paisley's character to be patient when waiting for a woman.

"Andy heard the song and wanted to commit to working the long hours necessary to get the video right, and he really adopted this music video as if it was his own," said Paisley, whose past videos have featured Jason Alexander, William Shatner, Maureen McCormick, Jerry Springer and others.

Sacha Baron Cohen - Bruno Set For Release Next Year

Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno, the follow-up to his massively successful BORAT movie, is to be released by Universal on May 15th, 2009.

It is thought that ANGELS AND DEMONS, the mystery drama starring Tom Hanks, would be the only movie to present Bruno with ant serious competition in such a release slot, reports Reuters.

Bruno will follow the exploits of gay Austrian fashion journalist, a character that was taken from Baron Cohen's former HBO series, Da Ali G Show.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film's full title will be Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt.

Universal is now hoping that the success of BORAT will ensure that Bruno can be a hit among the high profile summer release season.

As well as ANGELS AND DEMONS, the latest TERMINATOR movie and family comedy NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM II are scheduled for release in the same period.

Lovett, 50, hopes he will start to make money from his music when his contract with Curb/Universal expires later this year (08).

He says, "I've never made a dime from a record sale in the history of my record deal. I've been very happy with my sales, and certainly my audience has been very supportive. I make a living going out and playing shows.

"Certainly if a major label is interested in working with me after these next two records and is able to come up with a strategy that does engage some of the new technology in a way that can benefit everybody, I'd be very interested in that."

Britney is back in the recording studio

Reports that Britney Spears has returned to the recording studio have emerged just after a restraining order against her former manager was extended.
The singer, who recently came back under the guidance of former mentor Larry Rudolph, reportedly undertook a trip to a California studio in a bid to reignite her creativity this week.
Rudolph told Usamagazine.com: "We went into the studio, but it was just for fun - nothing more."
"She just wanted to go in and tinker around. She sat at a piano and got some ideas. She played the piano and sang a bit. She enjoyed herself."
Meanwhile, the temporary restraining order on Sam Lufti, who managed Spears during her slide into psychiatric difficulty, was extended to July 31.
It means he must not come within 250 yards of Spears, her family or her homes, or attempt to contact her until that time.
The order was initially obtained by Spears mother Lynne, who claimed Lufti had been controlling her daughter's life and finances by drugging her.
Spears and Rudolph were reunited last month after splitting in acrimonious circumstances in 2007.

Smurfs head for big-screen at Columbia Pictures

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Smurfs, those blue-skinned cartoon gnomes with short tails and white hats, are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a Hollywood movie deal announced on Tuesday by Columbia Pictures.

The Sony Corp.-owned studio said it has acquired motion picture rights to the Belgian-born characters from Lafig Belgium S.A. for a big-screen Smurfs adaptation mixing computer-graphic imagery and live action.

A similar "hybrid" treatment was recently given to another popular cartoon ensemble in the highly successful "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie from 20th Century Fox, a unit of News Corp.

Like Alvin and his rodent companions, the Smurfs will be created by CGI technology and interact with real actors portraying humans.

No casting decisions have been made or director chosen, but the studio is in negotiations with David Stem and David Weiss, the writing team behind both "Shrek" sequels and "The Rugrats Movie," to pen a Smurfs screenplay.

The Smurfs, simply drawn, diminutive beings -- just "three apples tall" -- with blue skin, white trousers and white caps, rank among the most widely recognized cartoon characters in the world.

Encompassing over 100 characters, the mostly male individuals all share the Smurf moniker and a descriptive first name -- such as Lazy Smurf, Grouchy Smurf, Brainy Smurf and Grandpa Smurf.

Created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, aka Peyo, the Smurfs first appeared in a series of Belgium comic strips and were originally called Les Schtroumpfs in French.

Connie Talbot, Britain's Young Singing Sensation, is Set to Conquer America!

ALBANY, N.Y., July 10 --

Check out Connie's Introductory EPK:
http://storage.rmsnetworks.com/video/play.asp?f=connie_talbot_epk_2 In 2007, an aspiring singer stepped onto the soundstage of England's
enormously popular TV program Britain's Got Talent, flashed an adorable
gap-toothed smile and instantly won the heart of the notoriously crusty
Simon Cowell -- yes, that Simon Cowell -- as well as the British viewing
public. In just a couple of minutes, a true star had been born.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080710/LATH540 )

In the past year that young lady has become an international
phenomenon, with millions of YouTube views, glowing media coverage and a
best-selling album -- a feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that
Connie Talbot is all of 7 years old.

Over the Rainbow, Connie Talbot's debut album, went gold in the U.K. in
three weeks, and is set for release in the United States on September 30th
by AAO Music/Reality. Now it's America's turn to experience Conniemania!

"We're looking forward to working with Connie and her family," said AAO
chairman Peter Kuys. "She's a happy, charming, innocent child with an
exceptional talent. We're an artist and people-driven label where she will
fit right in."

Over the Rainbow is, of course, named after the timeless classic from
The Wizard of Oz, and it was with the album's title song that Connie first
dazzled British audiences. Cowell, one of the three judges of Britain's Got
Talent-the same role he so famously performs on American Idol-was left
uncharacteristically speechless, declaring Connie's pure, angelic rendition
"fantastic" and commending her for her "pitch-perfect" vocal on the Judy
Garland standard.

Although she ultimately came in second place in the British contest,
word of Connie's prodigious talent spread rapidly. Asian music fans, in
particular, went wild for her -- Over the Rainbow became a platinum album
reaching the number one spot in Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong and came
close to that in Singapore. When Connie toured Asia following the release
of the album there, she was received with wild enthusiasm.

But that has been par for the course since she first appeared in front
of audiences. The British newspaper Express & Star, covering one of
Connie's U.K. concert performances, reported, "Police had to calm frantic
crowds as they clamored to get into a special tent to get a glimpse of
Britain's Got Talent TV star Connie Talbot... police threatened to stop
last night's show unless the crowds could be brought under control."

The story of Connie Talbot's meteoric rise is "fantastic" in itself.
Connie, in her own words, had been "singing since I could talk," but when
she auditioned for Britain's Got Talent her family was only looking for
something fun to do that day. The euphoric response by viewers and judges
alike quickly catapulted the pint-sized songstress into the spotlight. As
of this writing, videos of Connie have been watched more than 44 million
times on YouTube. On July 16, she will have the honor of performing at the
Nelson Mandela Children's Fund Annual Gala Dinner, in London.

Over the Rainbow, produced and mixed by Simon Hill and Rob May, was
recorded last fall in an aunt's spare bedroom so that Connie, who lives in
the town of Streetly in West Midlands, would not lose valuable school time.
The album is filled with Connie's stirring interpretations of such classics
as "I Will Always Love You," "Imagine," "Ben," "My Favorite Things" and
"What a Wonderful World," even a cover of Bob Marley's "Three Little
Birds."

"I'm really looking forward to coming to America to do some singing,
meet new people, and make some new friends!" said Connie when asked about
her impending introduction across the Atlantic.

And America is certainly looking forward to meeting her. Already,
Connie Talbot's recordings have sold in large quantities as imports; she's
got many fans in the United States without having sung a lick here, and a
definite buzz is in the air: Plans are in the works for the young star to
sing duets with major American artists, and to appear on some of the
States' most popular entertainment TV programs.

The future is limitless for this talented, delightful young singer, who
has already come so far in the year since her debut. Just how far? Well,
where that space in her mouth used to be, now there are two beautiful new
front teeth!

Next ‘Harry Potter’ Movie Will Be Exactly Like ‘Trainspotting’

Photo-illustration: Getty Images, Courtesy of Warner Brothers
Desperately unhappy playing a teenage wizard in children's movies, Daniel Radcliffe is trying to ratchet up excitement for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by claiming the movie will feature similarities to 1996's heroin-addiction comedy Trainspotting. "There's a fair amount of sexual energy and drug parallels," he tells Empire magazine, on whose cover he appears this month, bloody and with broken glasses. "We have a couple of what David Yates, the director, calls our 'Trainspotting moments.'"

We can't specifically recall any Trainspotting moments in the original book, so the speculation is that he's lying — but what if he's not? Like Ewan McGregor, Radcliffe hasn't exactly shown an allergy to pantsless acting, and we suppose there's nothing necessarily preventing Yates from taking a little artistic licence (besides the movie studio, Rowling, an army of lawyers, and hundreds of millions of irate Harry Potter fans). At the very least, one assumes there will be a Quidditch match set to "Lust for Life" and a scene in which Dumbledore teaches Harry a spell to get hallucinated dead babies down off the ceiling.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is like Trainspotting, says Daniel Radcliffe [Telegraph]

TV One to offer extensive Obama coverage

NEW YORK —

TV One, the cable network aimed at African-American viewers, will cover Barack Obama's nominating convention but is ignoring John McCain's.

The network is telecasting live, prime-time coverage of the Democratic convention in Denver Aug. 25-28, followed by "TV One Live: DNC Afterparty," with political and social commentary from panelists. TV One is available in 43.7 million households, or about 40 percent of the nation's TV homes.

Obama's nomination as the first black to be a major party presidential nominee is an historic event for African-Americans, so it's important for the network to be there, said Johnathan Rodgers, the network's president and CEO.

"While viewers can get coverage of the convention from any number of networks, we plan to cover the convention from a uniquely African American perspective," he said.

The network has no plans to cover the Republican convention.

"We are not a news organization," Rodgers said. "We are a television network that is designed to celebrate African-American achievement. That is why we are covering this convention. If Hillary (Clinton) was the nominee, we would not be covering this year's Democratic convention."

Mosquito with West Nile virus reported in Toronto

Toronto health officials say they have found the summer's first case of West Nile virus in a mosquito.

"The positive mosquito result reinforces the need for the public to take precautions to safeguard themselves from West Nile virus," said Dr. Howard Shapiro, the city's associate medical officer of health, in a prepared statement.

The overall risk to people is low, according to public health. But the department is urging people with compromised immune systems to take precautions.

It recommends people use insect repellent and wear light-coloured clothing in areas with mosquitoes and remove standing water around homes to reduce breeding.

Movie hunk KEANU REEVES has won his battle to keep his deposition in an upcoming assault trial from going public.

A paparazzo is suing The Matrix star, alleging the actor hit him with his Porsche in a parking lot in March 2007.

But Reeves has been granted his wish to keep the details of the case sealed.

According to new court documents, obtained by U.S. news show Access Hollywood, a judge has ordered that only Reeves' and the plaintiff's lawyers will have access to the transcripts from the deposition. The documents and any video testimony will not be copied.

The Reeves assault trial is scheduled to start on 27 October (08).

Mandela is free, but another star is in purgatory

The world has changed since 1986. But not that much. Back in the day,
thousands of footsore opponents of South Africa's apartheid regime marched
through south London to Clapham Common, where they settled back to enjoy a
free concert to highlight their righteous cause. The event, a year after
Live Aid, heralded a sea change in popular opposition to the Pretoria
government. Today – two major Wembley concerts later – Nelson Mandela has
been out of jail for 18 years, South Africa is putting its segregated past
behind it and the former political prisoner is elevated to the status of the
world's most revered statesman.

Last night, nearly 50,000 people paid £65 a head to watch veterans from that
decade – Queen, Annie Lennox and Simple Minds – join African stars play for
the great man's 90th birthday raising money for his Aids charity, 46664
(named after his prisoner number on Robben Island).

In 1986, the press devoted all its coverage of the event to Boy George, who
was in the midst of a debilitating heroin problem. Last night, speculation
focused on another star battling drink and drugs issues, which it is feared
might snuff out that talent at its height. Amy Winehouse, of course. Plus ça
change.

But Amy didn't let us down. The only sign of her recent tussle with emphysema
appeared a dramatically runny nose. To the delight of her fans she was back
to something like top form as she ripped through "Rehab" and "Valerie".
The other star of the night was also at his best.

Now a slow, shuffling figure hanging on the arm of his wife, Graca Michel, he
delivered an inspirational paen of hope. He described how, 20 years ago, the
music had reached "across the water to support us in our prison".
He said: "Now we can stand before you free," receiving the biggest
cheer of the night. The biggest boo of the night, for the record, went to
Victoria Beckham's imperial, video-taped message to Mr Mandela.

Jerry Dammers, a member of The Specials who crafted the Eighties anthem "Free
Nelson Mandela", was there. But campaigners were surely left struggling
to swallow the appearance on the bill of Queen. The group defied
international opinion to play in apartheid South Africa. But that of course
was a long time ago and things have moved on, haven't they?

Mariah Carey wants a famous partner

Singer Mariah Carey has revealed that she prefers to date famous men, because they are more likely to "fully understand" her.
The singer told Allure magazine that she wants to find a partner who understands the world of celebrity.
Carey said: "That's a big deal for me - feeling like somebody else can't fully understand me because they're not in showbusiness."
"It shouldn't matter, but it does, because the energy it takes to be 'on' is a lot."
The singer also revealed that she is looking for "someone who I would know is going to take care of me emotionally, they're going to understand who I am".
Speaking about her fans, she said: "What's weird about that is being onstage, and the love that you get, and the adoration that you feel from your real fans. It's hard for a partner to compete - just imagine."

Sacha Baron Cohen Takes Bruno To Arkansas

The Smoking Gun website has posted copies of ads used to lure thousands of Arkansans to staged events in Texarkana and Fort Smith for Sacha Baron Cohen's latest movie, Bruno, based on his TV character, a gay Austrian interviewer who specializes in entertainment and fashion topics. The ads promised one-dollar beer, "hot chicks" and "hardcore fights." As TSG reported, both events ended with two male wrestlers "tearing each other's clothes off and, while in underwear, kissing down their opponent's chest." The display, said TSG, "triggered Fort Smith fans to throw chairs and beer at the ring." Cohen's "Blue Collar Brawlin'" website, which promoted the events, shuttered after the filming. TSG discovered they they were registered to Peto Philer of Algeria.

Sex Pistols Chronicler Does Joe Strummer a Good Turn

It’s only appropriate that Julien Temple, the London-‘77 scene hanger-on that captured the Sex Pistols on film in The Great Rock-n’-Roll Swindle, would do the same for the great Joe Strummer: It was the Sex Pistols’ sound that pushed Strummer to quit his pub-rock band the 101’ers and turn the volume up. Temple’s film lovingly illuminates the hectic Clash years with archival footage, animation, and interviews with everyone from Jim Jarmusch to John Cusack to Mick Jones.
